Summary of the most important research projects (lectures and publications)

Introduction of „the muscle-technique“ for upper blepharoplasty for long lasting reconstruction of the superior palpebral crease and prevention of postoperative muscle bulging with long-lasting, natural results, with barely visible scar

This research project is about the so-called muscle technique in correcting drooping eyelids. Only by removing the orbicularis oculi muscle in the area of the sulcus is it possible to round off the eyelid plate in the long term and to ensure that no recurrences occur. Eyelid lifts in which only the eyelid skin is removed without the muscles are usually no longer visible after about 2 years and the drooping eyelid deformity is present again.

Development of the “flat incision technique” FIT for the „direct brow lift“  and for all facial incisions. First description in literature. Histological study performed.

A new cutting technique, the so-called Flat Incision Technique (FIT), can be used to avoid unsightly scars in almost all facial operations on patients with normal skin quality. For example, the Flat Incision Technique can be used for eyebrow corrections, forehead lifts, lower eyelid corrections, drooping eyelid corrections, but especially for facelifts. The Flat Incision Technique can cover large tumors and the resulting defects without unsightly scars. The scars after a facelift, for example, are barely visible to the naked eye.
The flat incision technique can be used in both aesthetic procedures such as facelifts, eyelid surgery and all liftings in the face, but also in reconstructive facial surgery.

Development and introduction of a scar reduced technique for vertical scar mammaplasty, the “Purse-string-suture-technique”
The purse-string suture technique can massively reduce scars from breast lifts and moderately large breast reductions and avoid T-scars.  The purse-string-suture-technique allows breast lifts and breast reductions to be performed with almost no scars . There is no T-scar and the scar is hidden in the breast fold. The technique can be used for breast lifts and moderately large breast reductions where the nipple does not need to be transferred more than 5 centimeters. The vertical part of the scar is also much finer because the stitches are smooth and not gathered. Unsightly dog ears can also be avoided with the technique

Developement and introduction of the «V/Y-Alar-Perforator Flap» for nasal reconstruction
Skin tumors such as melanomas, basal cell carcinomas (white skin cancer) and squamous cell carcinomas often develop over the years in areas that have always been exposed to the sun. The nose is particularly challenging. The tip of the nose and the nostrils are particularly frequently affected by tumors on the nose. The aesthetics, function and shape of the nose, especially the tip of the nose and the nostrils, should be preserved whenever possible, despite the removal of a skin tumor. Using the V/Y perforator flap technique, the symmetry and shape of the nose, especially the tip of the nose and the nostrils, can be preserved even with extensive tumors.

Presentation of a new flap technique for simultaneous reconstruction of perialar and alar defects in the face
In the case of extensive skin carcinomas that affect both the nasal wing and the skin next to the nasal wing, the skin defect next to the nasal wing and the loss of the nasal wing can be repaired in one step using a VY flap from the lower cheek skin and a smaller flap attached to the upper part from the lateral upper lip.

Developement/Introduction of the „subcostal artery perforator flap“. First description and examination of the blood supply by an injection study
This involves covering large soft tissue defects in the area of the lower spine, which can be covered again using the so-called perforator flap of the subcostal artery. Defects caused by tumors, deformities or accidents in the area of the lower spine can be closed well with the help of this perforator flap without causing disfigurement. A major advantage of this technique is that the region from which the flap comes is closed again without a final position, since there is usually enough superfluous tissue in the area of the „Pirelli“ to be moved.
